A Glimpse Inside a Manhattan Apartment

I was a little hesitant to use Airbnb for my first trip to New York, firstly because of my mortifying tampon experience in Paris last Spring and secondly I wanted to find an apartment with a real fabulous-single-girl-living-in-nyc vibe. And then one morning as I was lying in bed drinking my coffee and checking the new listings this little gem in Midtown East appeared.

Private Studio in the Heart of NYC – The space is a charming, clean and private studio in Midtown East, just steps from Grand Central Terminal! Apartment is in an elevator building with a doorman.

Done! They had me at doorman.

By the time our yellow cab pulled up outside the apartment it was already midnight in New York. While this doorman might have traded his white gloves and golden epaulets for a casual suit and was kicking back in his chair listening to Lil Wayne while we hauled our suitcases up the small set of stairs, the apartment on the 8th floor was everything I had imagined.

Our lovely New York host welcomed us with a bottle of  French champagne and a note of the fridge that read “Dear Paige, I hope you enjoy your stay in New York City”

Honey I’m home!

All of the essentials were provided, including Netflix and local brunch guide. Add a pair of heels and my laptop for writing and our humble abode was complete!

When you live in a Manhattan-sized studio storage is everything. Instead of groceries this New Yorker had books, Warhol and Monet the flavours of her life. While I know nothing about art history I could easily picture my Pleasure Manual in this space along with my box sets of classic cinematography e.g. Bridget Jones Diary.

The room was lit by several windows which opened onto the bustling financial district of Manhattan.

Perfect to catch the Summer breeze, spy on a handsome broker in a nearby office block or provide the right light for a quick selfie.

For the next eight days I can leave behind my Sydney life with the daily grind, piles of dirty laundry, bills and dating dramas and immerse myself in fast paced NYC. During the day I’ll explore the boroughs, hail cabs, sip martinis and stroll aimlessly through Central Park, then at night come home to my charming Manhattan apartment where the real magic of this space comes alive.

Behind the amber curtains I present to you the Chrysler Building in all her dazzling glory.
